Last Monday we were delighted to be visited by Denmark’s ambassador to Tanzania, Einar Jensen. For the previous two years Seed Change has been supported by DANIDA (the Danish overseas aid agency) and so the Ambassador come by to see the progress. An agronomist by profession, Ambassador Jensen grilled us with questions on yield, water requirements, nutrient cycling and was very happy to delve into discussions about the costs and benefits of drip irrigation vs overhead sprinkler systems. The stuff of dreams for us oil palm nerds!
All in all, it was a very enjoyable visit for all the Seed Change staff. Certainly for the men and women who work day in, day out tending the seedlings it was a great experience for them to see how important our work is to people all over the world. We look forward to another visit and picking up where we left off regarding optimal shading for two month old seedlings!
